What links a National Coastal Forces monument, Robert Whitehead inventor of the torpedo and the von Trapp family of the Sound of Music fame? Answer:Bury in Lancashire. Who'd have thought it?!

Don't forget Robert was actually born in Bolton though in 1823 and attended Bolton School. http://www.hansonclan.co.uk/royal%20navy/rw.htm

Hi Jane, I know he has very strong Bolton links, but Bury seem to be claiming him and the Whitehead family for their own. Always thought it was a bit dubious but there you go.
