Holmfirth Heavy Anti Aircraft Gun

Just off Dean Road, near Holmfirth is the remains of a Heavy Anti-Aircraft gun emplacement.

On the day I went it was a wild wintery day just before Christmas and the snow and sleet were driving across the moor. You can see the small tree growing out of the building is permanently bent by the wind. This must have been an unpopular place to have been stationed at. The Holmfirth Road back over to Lancashire was an interesting drive that day - not for the faint hearted.

According to Colin Dobinson's book, the GDA (gun Defended Area) was Leeds.

Today we have a single partly demolished 1941 pattern gun pit remaining at this site. There is no access. And the thing to the near left of the photo is a cattle feeder.
