Lost voices of the First World War

Council  cuts have lead to the loss of the North West Sound Archives which was based at Clitheroe Castle. The individual archives have been sent to the relevant nearby archives, but their future accessibility is uncertain.

Ken Howarth, who set up the archive, sent us this short clip. It is of the last surviving Accrington Pal, Will Marshall (RIGHT), being interviewed. He died at the age of 102.

It gives you a very personal account of what war was like on the front line and the bravery of our "orinary boys" who went to fight the First World War.

If this little page gets a good reaction, we may look to put up more sound archives - if we can get permission.
